Mijn naam is Rick, ik geef les in Den Haag,

My name is Rick, I teach Dutch every day.

Ik lees het nieuws en zoek een goed verhaal,

I read the news to find a story for class.

Vorige week raakte iets me echt diep,

Last week something touched me deep inside.

Over moeders in Mexico die al jaren zoeken,

About mothers in Mexico searching for years.

Melktand, melktand, klein maar waar,

Milk tooth, milk tooth, small but true.

We moeten kinderen serieus nemen, dat is niet zwaar,

We must take children seriously, it's not hard to do.

Op pad gaan met hoop, dat is de sfeer,

To set off with hope, that's the atmosphere.

Menselijkheid en nieuws, daar leren we van, keer op keer,

Humanity and news, we learn from them, again and again.

Ik liep de klas in met koffie in mijn hand,

I walked into class with coffee in my hand.

De leerlingen keken op, de sfeer was rustig,

The students looked up, the mood was soft.

Ik vertelde over moeders, hun pijn en hun kracht,

I told them about mothers, their pain and their strength.

Een leerling schudde zijn hoofd, hij dacht na,

A student shook his head, he was thinking hard.

We moeten nadenken over wie we kwaad doen,

We must reflect on who we harm today.
